Acetone Bodies

Acetone bodies are derivatives of ketones, formed during the oxidation under the influence of various enzyme systems of basic fatty acids and some short-chain carbohydrates (lactose, glucose), simple ketones and acetone inclusive. A. t. are often released into the blood in increased quantities, for example, in patients with diabetes mellitus, hepatitis, after heavy exercise, injuries, burns and other conditions. Diagnosis of elevated levels of A.t. is based on determining the daily amount of uric acid.
