Alastrim virus

Alastrima virus is a virus of the genus Orthopoxviruses, family of poxviruses; the causative agent of the human disease of the same name. Alastrim is an acute human infectious disease characterized by fever and rash. The virus is transmitted by airborne droplets and through household items. The incubation period lasts from 7 to 19 days. A characteristic rash appears first on the face and torso, then spreads to the limbs. The mucous membranes of the oropharynx and upper respiratory tract are also affected. Complications are rare, mortality is low. There is no specific treatment; symptomatic therapy is prescribed. Vaccination is used for prevention. Thus, the alastrima virus causes a dangerous human infectious disease that requires anti-epidemic measures.
