Amoxone: description, use, side effects and interactions

Amoxone (international name - amoxicillin) is one of the most common antibiotics of the penicillin group. It is widely used to treat various infectious diseases caused by bacteria, such as infections of the respiratory tract, genitourinary system, skin and soft tissues, gastrointestinal tract and others.

Amoxone is manufactured by Jason Pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh. The dosage form is available in the form of capsules of 250 mg and powder for suspension of 125 mg/5 ml. The active substance is amoxicillin.

Indications for use include treatment of bacterial infections of the respiratory tract and ENT organs, genitourinary system, skin and soft tissues, gastrointestinal tract, leptospirosis, listeriosis, meningitis, Lyme disease, prevention of endocarditis and surgical infections, combination therapy of gastritis and peptic ulcers (in combination with metronidazole ), sepsis (together with aminoglycosides).

However, like any antibiotic, Amoxon has contraindications. These are hypersensitivity, allergic diathesis, bronchial asthma, hay fever, infectious mononucleosis, lymphocytic leukemia, a history of gastrointestinal diseases (especially colitis associated with the use of antibiotics).

Side effects of Amoxone may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the anus, stomatitis, glossitis, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, behavior changes, headache, dizziness, convulsive reactions, difficulty breathing, tachycardia, joint pain, interstitial nephritis, dysbacteriosis, superinfection, oral or vaginal candidiasis, pseudomembranous or hemorrhagic colitis, moderate increase in blood transaminases, transient anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, eosinophilia, leukopenia, neutropenia and agranulocytosis, allergic reactions such as exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactic shock, maculopapular rash, itching, urticaria, Quincke's edema and others.

It should also be noted that Amoxone may interact with other drugs, such as allopurinol, probenecid, anticoagulants, methotrexate, theophylline, aminoglycosides and others. Therefore, it is necessary to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking before starting treatment with Amoxone.
