Ampicillin Sodium Salt Sterile

Ampicillin sodium salt, sterile, is an antibiotic of the penicillin group, which is used to treat infectious and inflammatory diseases. The drug is manufactured in Spain by Amipharma and in Italy by Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Ampicillin sodium salt, sterile, is presented only in the form of a substance and contains ampicillin as an active substance. The drug is used for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (pneumonia, lung abscess, bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis), otitis media, peritonitis, sepsis, endocarditis, kidney and urinary tract infections, cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, gonorrhea, biliary system infections, whooping cough , listeriosis, typhoid and paratyphoid, skin and soft tissue infections, musculoskeletal infections, meningitis.

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity (including to other penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems), severe liver dysfunction, as well as during breastfeeding (treatment must be suspended during treatment).

Dyspeptic symptoms, dysbacteriosis and superinfections caused by resistant strains are possible, as well as allergic reactions as side effects. When taking ampicillin, interactions with other drugs are possible; for example, it reduces the effect of oral contraceptives and enhances the effect of anticoagulants and aminoglycoside antibiotics. Allopurinol increases the appearance of skin rashes.

In case of an overdose of the drug, a toxic effect on the central nervous system is possible, especially in patients with renal failure. Treatment is carried out symptomatically.

With long-term treatment with ampicillin in weakened patients, the development of superinfection caused by resistant strains of bacteria that are not sensitive to ampicillin is possible. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully monitor the patient’s condition during treatment and, if necessary, adjust therapy.

The dosage of sterile ampicillin sodium salt depends on the severity of the infection and the age of the patient. Usually the drug is prescribed in a dose of 1-2 grams per day, divided into 2-4 doses. The duration of treatment also depends on the severity of the disease, but usually ranges from 5 to 14 days.

Before starting treatment, you must consult your doctor and strictly follow the recommendations on dosage and duration of treatment. You should also monitor for possible side effects and be sure to tell your doctor about any changes in your health while taking ampicillin.
