Rams Symptom

Barany's symptom is a set of symptoms that occur when the vestibular apparatus is damaged.

The vestibular apparatus is located in the inner ear and is responsible for balance and coordination of movements. When it is damaged, dizziness, imbalance, nausea, vomiting, and nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) occur. These symptoms were described by the Hungarian doctor Robert Barany, which is why they bear his name.

Diseases of the inner ear (labyrinthitis, auditory neuroma), stroke, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injury lead to the ram symptom. For diagnosis, audiometry, caloric test, and computed tomography of the brain are performed. Treatment depends on the cause and may include medications to relieve dizziness, physical therapy, and surgery.

Manifestations of lamb symptoms can be temporary or persistent. With timely treatment, in most cases it is possible to eliminate or reduce symptoms.
