Cardioplasty According to Petrovsky

Cardioplasty according to Petrovsky

Cardioplasty according to Petrovsky is a heart surgery developed by Russian cardiac surgeon A.N. Petrovsky.

The essence of the operation is as follows. An incision is made into the chest and the heart is exposed. Then, scar tissue is excised from the area of myocardial infarction and the defect is replaced with a patch of pericardium (outer heart sac) or artificial material. This patch, as it were, “closes the hole” in the heart muscle formed after a heart attack.

This operation allows you to restore the integrity and contractile function of the damaged area of the heart and reduce heart failure. The operation is named after its author - A.N. Petrovsky, who first performed it in the 60s of the 20th century.

Since then, cardioplasty according to Petrovsky has been widely used to treat the consequences of myocardial infarction. This is one of the most effective operations in cardiac surgery.
