Carnitene: use, indications and side effects

Indications for the use of Carnitene include the following conditions: consequences of birth trauma and asphyxia of newborns, malnutrition and hypotension of newborns, respiratory distress syndrome in newborns, nursing of premature newborns on total parenteral nutrition and children undergoing hemodialysis; a syndrome complex similar to Reye's syndrome (hypoglycemia, hypoketonemia, coma), developing in children while taking valproic acid; underweight in children and adolescents under 16 years of age; propionic and other “organic” acidemias, primary (genetic) and secondary carnitine deficiency; mild forms of thyrotoxicosis, exogenous constitutional obesity, psoriasis, seborrhea, cutaneous forms of scleroderma, cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, coronary heart disease, hypoperfusion in cardiogenic shock, myopathies, anorexia, chronic hypoacid gastritis, chronic pancreatitis with impaired exocrine function, liver disease, neurasthenia, traumatic encephalopathy, physical exhaustion, intense physical activity in athletes, prevention of cardiotoxicity during treatment with anthracyclines.

Carnitene has contraindications for use in case of hypersensitivity to the drug. In addition, some patients may experience side effects such as pain in the epigastric region, dyspeptic symptoms and muscle weakness.

The interaction of Carnitene with other drugs can lead to the accumulation of levocarnitine in tissues (except the liver) while taking glucocorticoids, as well as enhancing its effect when taking other anabolic steroids.
