Cholecystography

Cholecystography is an x-ray examination of the gallbladder. A radiopaque contrast agent is administered to the patient through the mouth, then it is absorbed in the intestines and excreted by the liver into bile, which accumulates in the gallbladder. The resulting x-ray of the gallbladder (cholecystogram) allows you to evaluate its structure, function, and the presence of stones in it (on the x-ray they are presented as light areas). Before the examination, the patient will be given fatty foods to determine how well the gallbladder is functioning.

Cholecystography is a fairly common method for diagnosing gallbladder diseases and allows us to identify various pathologies, such as cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, gallbladder tumors and other diseases.

Cholecystography is an x-ray examination that is used to evaluate the condition of the gallbladder and its function. It is performed by injecting a radiopaque contrast agent through the mouth and then obtaining an X-ray of the gallbladder.

Before the examination, the patient is given a fatty meal, which stimulates the secretion of bile from the liver into the gallbladder and allows a better assessment of its function.

The radiopaque contrast agent, which is administered orally, is absorbed into the intestines and then excreted into the liver, where it is converted into bile. Bile accumulates in the gallbladder, and on the resulting x-ray you can see what the gallbladder looks like, as well as the presence of stones in it.

Cholecystography can be performed both to diagnose gallbladder diseases and to monitor their treatment. It can be useful for various diseases of the gallbladder, such as cholecystitis, cholelithiasis and others.
