Corpus luteum cyst

A corpus luteum cyst is a cavity formation in the ovary filled with fluid. It is formed from an unovulated ovarian follicle.

Causes:

  1. Disorders of the ovulation process. It can occur due to stress, overexertion, sudden weight changes, or taking hormonal medications.

  2. Inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs.

  3. Endocrine disorders (thyroid dysfunction, hyperprolactinemia).

  4. Polycystic ovary syndrome.

Symptoms:

  1. Pain in the lower abdomen during menstruation.

  2. Menstrual irregularities.

  3. Infertility.

  4. Nausea, vomiting (if the cyst is large).

Diagnosis is carried out using ultrasound.

Treatment:

  1. Hormonal therapy to restore ovulation.

  2. Surgical - puncture of the cyst, removal of the cyst using laparoscopic access.

  3. Large cysts may require removal of the entire ovary (oophorectomy).

The prognosis with timely treatment is favorable. It is important to regularly visit a gynecologist and promptly identify and treat disorders to prevent complications.
