Anesthetic depression is a mental disorder characterized by a loss of emotions and sense of enjoyment in life, decreased motivation and interest in activities, and difficulty concentrating and making decisions. This form of depression is associated with blocking the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is responsible for mood and well-being in the body. As a result, patients suffer from decreased mood, increased restlessness, anxiety, irritability and feelings of despair. Depressive symptoms usually occur over weeks or months and may be more persistent than with other forms of depression.
