Dextrose 10% is a glucose solution that is used in medical practice for infusions and preparation of drug solutions. It is produced in India by Wockhard Limited and belongs to the pharmacological group of sugars and sweeteners.

The international name for this drug is dextrose. It is also known by synonyms: glucose, glucose anhydride, glucose for intravenous infusion 50 g/l, glucose NS, glucose-Senderesis, glucose-E, glucose monohydrate, glucosteril, glucosteril 10%, glucosteril 20%, dexaqua, dexoride , dextrose 20%, dextrose 5%.

Dextrose 10% is a solution for infusion that contains 100 mg of glucose in 1 ml of solution. It is used to treat various conditions such as hypoglycemia, hypoglycemic coma, hypovolemia, dehydration, shock, collapse, intoxication in surgical, trauma and resuscitation practice.

However, the use of dextrose 10% also has contraindications. It is not recommended for use in diabetes mellitus and various conditions accompanied by hyperglycemia.

Also, when using this drug, side effects may occur, such as fever, tissue inflammation at the injection site, thrombosis and/or thrombophlebitis, hypervolemia and acute left ventricular failure. These effects are most often associated with violations of asepsis during the preparation of the solution or injection technique.

According to the literature, there is no information about the interaction of dextrose 10% with other drugs and the possibility of overdose.
