Echondrosis

Exostosis (ecchondrosis, exostophic chondrodysplasia, OCD), or ostosis, is a disease characterized by the formation of benign bone spurs on long tubular bones. The pathological process is based on dysplasia of cartilage tissue, which is accompanied by the formation of pathological cartilaginous and bone growths. In this case, the structure of the bone tissue at the site of the lesion does not change, which distinguishes exostosis from enchondromatosis.

OCD most often occurs in middle-aged and elderly people, usually with one lesion on one bone (monostosis). The second focus of OCD is diagnosed in isolated cases. Bilateral damage is one of the variants of the course of osteogenic sarcoma.
