Emulsion ointment

Ointment-emulsion compositions are among the combined dosage forms that include several active components of different effects in the form of either a homogeneous mixture or suspension, or dispersion. This form of release is in great demand among specialists and is highly effective in treating a wide range of diseases.

General description of the dosage form

Ointment dispersions include 2 or more active ingredients, with the main component being a semi-liquid form, and the second active pharmacological ingredient being a solid (usually distilled water). In this case, aqueous, semi-aqueous and alcohol bases (hydrocarbic, glycerin, petroleum jelly, 1% naphthol, bisacolline) are used as a base.

Ready-made ointment-emulsions are a homogeneous, thick, creamy mass or a paste-like gel-like composition with a creamy tint. In this preparation, the active components are either present as a single-phase disperse system, or are presented as an “oil in water” emulsion, or as a stabilized “oil-water” semi-emulsion.

The introduction of special additives and preservatives increases the shelf life of the drug and increases its effectiveness. One of these substances is hydrolysis
