The eponychium is a narrow strip of tissue covering part of the fingers and/or toes. There is always an invisible gap between the skin of the body and the fabric. The eponychium is often equipped with skin folds that close the gaps for a tighter fit of the tissue to the skin during careless movements (stretching, lifting weights), as well as for protection from injury (especially when falling from a slippery surface). There is a variety of eponychium used in special cases - the training compartment - as a fabric for the foot with a thick sole when engaging in difficult physical exercises and walking on hard but very slippery soil. In this case, the fabric is sometimes equipped with a special anti-slip impregnation, also sometimes called soft flooring fabric (anti-slip coating).
