Gyne-Lotrimin

Gyne-Lotrimin is an antifungal drug manufactured in Portugal by Schering-Plough. The active substance is clotrimazole, which is a derivative of imidazole and triazole.

Gyne-Lotrimin is available in a variety of dosage forms, including 100 mg vaginal tablets, 1% vaginal cream, ointment, aerosol, lotion and topical solution. The drug is used to treat various fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Candida albicans, Malassezia furfur, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum canis. It can also be used to treat infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and to cleanse the birth canal before childbirth.

Despite the effectiveness of Gine-Lotrimin, there are some contraindications and side effects. For example, the drug should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity, pregnancy and lactation. Side effects may include local reactions such as erythema, blistering, swelling, irritation, burning and tingling sensations, peeling, allergic reactions (itching, urticaria, burning), as well as other symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, increased frequency of urination, intercurrent cystitis, pain during sexual intercourse, burning sensation in the penis of the sexual partner.

Before using Gyne-Lotrimin, special instructions must be taken into account, such as avoiding use in areas where the integrity of the skin is damaged, as well as avoiding contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes. If there is no clinical improvement within 4 weeks, a microbiological study should be performed to confirm the diagnosis and exclude another cause of the disease.
