Hegar needle holder

A Hegar needle holder is a surgical instrument used to hold a needle while suturing. It is named after the German surgeon Ernst Christian Hegar, who invented it in the early 19th century.

Hegar's needle holder is a metal rod 10-12 cm long with rings or handles at the ends. One end is pointed and is used to pierce tissue. The other end has clips or clicks to hold the needle. The tool allows the surgeon to hold small needles in hard-to-reach areas during deep sutures.

Hegar needle holders are still widely used in modern surgery. They help ensure precise and neat stitching during operations. There are several types of Hegar needle holders, differing in the design of the clamps and handles. But they all work on the same principle, proposed by Hegar more than 200 years ago.
