Hypertrophy

Hypertrophy (from ancient Greek ὑπερ- “super-” + τροφή “food” ← τρέφω “nourish, saturate”), hyperplasia is an increase in the volume of an organ or tissue. Unlike hyperplasia or a benign tumor, the leading place in the formation of hypertrophy is given to an increase in the functional capabilities of the organ due to an increase in its blood supply, which is accompanied by an increase in the mass of organelles. Hypertrophy is rarely considered as a separate nosological form of the underlying disease.
