Human leukocyte interferon (IL-1) is an antiviral drug that is produced by human white blood cells. Interferon activates the immune system, helping the body fight infections. IL-1 is used to treat various viral diseases such as hepatitis, influenza, colds, herpes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and others.

IL-1 is produced by several companies in Russia and Ukraine, including Biomed, Biomed im. Mechnikova, Immunopreparat, Microgen NPO, Biomed Perm NPO, Virion NPO, Immunopreparat and St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums. The drug is also known under the synonyms Leukinferon, Lokferon and Egiferon.

IL-1 is available in several dosage forms, including lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution, lyophilized powder for the preparation of a nasal solution 1000 IU 4dz, suppositories 40,000 IU, lyophilisate for the preparation of a solution for intranasal administration 1000 IU 4dz and suppositories 30,000 IU.

IL-1 belongs to a group of antiviral interferons that are used to treat various viral infections. The drug can be effective in complex therapy, including the use of other antiviral drugs.
