Ketotif is an antiallergic drug that is actively used for the prevention and treatment of various allergic diseases, such as bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis and migraine.

Ketotif is available in the form of 1 mg tablets and 0.02% syrup. The active substance is ketotifen fumarate. Manufacturers of the drug are Copran Ltd. from India.

Ketotifen, whose synonyms include names such as Airifen, Astafen, Zaditen and others, is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine, a substance that is released in the body in response to an allergen and causes allergic reactions in humans. Ketotif fumarate reduces the reactivity of bronchial and pulmonary tissues, inhibits the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, blocks the sensitivity of receptors to histamine, which leads to a reduction in the symptoms of allergic diseases.

Ketotif is contraindicated for people who have hypersensitivity to the active substance or any other component of the drug, pregnant and lactating women, children under 3 years (tablets) and up to 6 months (syrup).

Side effects of the drug can manifest themselves in the nervous system and sensory organs, manifesting themselves in the form of sedation, decreased reactivity, lethargy, fatigue, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, as well as anxiety, sleep disturbances and nervousness, especially in children. From the gastrointestinal tract, dry mouth, increased appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and constipation may occur.

The interaction of Ketotif with other drugs may enhance the effects of sedatives, hypnotics and other antihistamines, as well as ethanol. Oral antidiabetic drugs may increase the likelihood of thrombocytopenia.

In case of an overdose of Ketotif, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, disorientation, bradycardia and tachycardia, hypotension, shortness of breath, increased excitability, and possible development of convulsions may occur. In case of overdose, stop taking the drug and seek medical help.
