Clerimed

Clerimed: macrolide antibiotic to fight infections

Clerimed (international name Clarithromycin) is an antibiotic from the group of macrolides and azalides, produced in Cyprus by Medokemi Ltd. The drug is widely used to treat infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, as well as to treat duodenal and gastric ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.

Clerimed is available in the form of film-coated tablets with different dosages - 250 mg and 500 mg of the active substance - Clarithromycin. The drug is available under various trade names such as Binoclar, Vero-Clarithromycin, Klabax, Clarbakt, Clarithromycin Protech, Clarithromycin-Verte, Clarithrosin, Klacid, Klacid SR, Fromilid and Fromilid uno.

Clerimed acts on bacteria, reducing their ability to produce proteins necessary for their survival and reproduction. This allows the drug to effectively fight infections.

However, like any other antibiotic, Clerimed can cause side effects. These include nausea, vomiting, changes in taste, abdominal pain, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, stomatitis, glossitis, dizziness, headache, anxiety, fear, insomnia, nightmares, increased activity of liver enzymes, cholestatic jaundice, allergic (urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, etc.) and anaphylactoid reactions.

Clerimed may also interact with other drugs, increasing their concentration in the blood. These drugs include warfarin and other indirect anticoagulants, carbamazepine, theophylline, astemizole, cisapride, thiazolam, midazolam, cyclosporine, digoxin, ergot alkaloids, etc. In addition, Clerimed may reduce the absorption of zidovudine.

Before using Clerimed, you should be aware of contraindications, such as hypersensitivity to the drug, severe liver disease, porphyria, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

In case of an overdose of Clerimed, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may occur. Treatment consists of gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy.

Overall, Clerimed is an effective antibiotic for treating infections caused by susceptible bacteria, but its use should be done with caution and only as directed by a doctor. If side effects occur, you should immediately seek medical help.
