Koktorii

Coctorium (coctorium; from Latin coquo, coctum - to cook, cook) - a room for cooking in monasteries and other church institutions in medieval Europe.

The coctorium was usually located next to the refectory and kitchen and was used for boiling, frying and baking various dishes. It contained ovens, braziers, boilers and other necessary kitchen utensils. Meals were prepared here for monks and pilgrims, as well as food distributed to the poor.

The staff of the studio included cooks, their assistants and young students. They worked from early morning until late evening, providing the monastery and the people sheltered there with hot food.

Koctorius played an important role in the life of the medieval monastery. Not only simple monastic meals were prepared here, but also rich feasts on church holidays.
