Lamolep

Lamolep: application, side effects and features of the drug

Lamolep, also known by its international name lamotrigine, is an anticonvulsant used to treat various forms of partial and generalized seizures. This drug is manufactured in Hungary by Gedeon Richter A.O. and is available in tablets of various strengths - 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg.

Lamolep belongs to the class of lamotrigine anticonvulsants, which block voltage-gated sodium channels and thereby reduce the excitability of nerve cells. This helps reduce the frequency and severity of seizures.

Indications for the use of lamolep include seizures of various forms, including tonic-clonic, partial and generalized, as well as in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, which is characterized by resistance to other anticonvulsant drugs.

However, like any other drug, lamolep can cause side effects. The most common adverse events associated with the use of this drug include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, sleep disturbances, fatigue, aggressiveness, confusion, nausea, liver dysfunction, lymphadenopathy, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, angioedema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome , toxic skin necrosis and skin rash.

Interaction of lamolep with other anticonvulsants, such as carbamazepine, phenytoin and valproic acid, may lead to accelerated elimination of lamotrigine. Drugs that induce the cytochrome P450 system may also increase the metabolism of lamotrigine. Paracetamol may also speed up the elimination of lamolep.

An overdose of lamolep may cause symptoms such as ataxia, nystagmus, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, vomiting and coma. In this case, it is necessary to immediately perform gastric lavage and prescribe activated charcoal.

It is important to note that abrupt withdrawal of lamolep may cause an increase in seizures, so the dose should be reduced gradually.

In conclusion, it can be noted that lamolep is an effective anticonvulsant drug that can be prescribed for the treatment of various forms of partial and generalized seizures. However, its use should only be done under the supervision of a physician, as the drug may cause side effects and interact with other anticonvulsants and medications. If any adverse events occur, you should immediately consult a doctor. In addition, when discontinuing the drug, it is necessary to reduce the dose gradually to avoid worsening seizures.
