Lekoptin: description of the drug and its use

Lekoptin is a drug that is a calcium channel blocker of the phenylalkylamine group. The drug is produced in Russia by the Vector-Pharm company and in Slovenia by the Lek DD company. The international name of the drug is Verapamil, and synonyms include Atsupamil, Vepamil, Veracard, Veramil, Verapabene, Verapamil (Mival), Verapamil hydrochloride, Verapamil-MIC, Verapamil-Ratiopharm, Verapamil hydrochloride, Vero-Verapamil, Verogalid ER, Veromil, Danistol , Isoptin, Isoptin SR, Kaveril, Falicard, Fal.

Lekoptin is available in several dosage forms, including 40 mg tablets, 80 mg tablets, 120 mg tablets, 240 mg retard tablets, 5 mg injection solution, 120 mg film-coated tablets, 40 mg film-coated tablets, 5 mg/2 ml injection solution, 80 mg film-coated tablets. The active ingredient of the drug is Verapamil.

Lekoptin is used to treat various diseases of the cardiovascular system, including paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (except WPW syndrome), sinus tachycardia, atrial extrasystole, atrial fibrillation and flutter, angina (including Prinzmetal, tension, post-infarction), arterial hypertension, hypertensive crisis, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

However, the drug has a number of contraindications that must be taken into account before using it. These contraindications include hypersensitivity, severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, AV block II and III degrees, myocardial infarction (acute or recent and complicated by bradycardia, hypotension, left ventricular failure), chronic heart failure stage III, WPW syndrome and sick sinus syndrome (if a pacemaker is not implanted), sinoatrial block, Morgagni-Adams-Stokes syndrome, digitalis intoxication, severe stenosis of the aortic mouth, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Also, there are restrictions on the use of the drug in elderly patients, patients with impaired renal and liver function, patients with electrolyte imbalance, as well as in patients taking certain other drugs, such as the antibiotic erythromycin, antifungal drugs, protease inhibitors, antiarrhythmic drugs etc.
