Levodopa + Carbidopa: an effective remedy against Parkinson's disease

Levodopa + Carbidopa is a combination drug used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and symptomatic parkinsonism. It consists of two active components - levodopa and carbidopa. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine, a substance that is not sufficiently present in the brains of patients with Parkinson's disease. Carbidopa, in turn, enhances the effect of levodopa.

The manufacturer of the drug is the Dabur India company from India. Levodopa + Carbidopa belongs to the pharmacological group of antiparkinsonian dopaminergic drugs. It is available in tablet form.

Indications for use of the drug include the treatment of Parkinson's disease and symptomatic parkinsonism. However, the drug also has contraindications. It is not recommended for severe atherosclerosis, hypertension, liver, kidney, blood diseases, glaucoma, melanoma, bronchial asthma, mental illness and uncompensated pathology of the cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine systems.

The drug also has possible side effects, including choreoathetoid hyperkinesis, arrhythmias, psychotic and paranoid reactions, dyspepsia, dizziness, visual disturbances, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, alopecia, allergic reactions and gastrointestinal ulceration.

Levodopa + Carbidopa may also interact with other drugs. For example, it weakens the effect of vitamin B6 and enhances the effect of MAO inhibitors.

In case of an overdose of the drug, symptoms such as muscle twitching, convulsive closing of the eyelid, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irregular and rapid pulse, loss of consciousness, convulsions, agitation, hallucinations and coma can be observed. In such cases, you must immediately call an ambulance.
