Levomycetin-UBF: antibiotic of the chloramphenicol group

Levomycetin-UBF is an antibiotic of the chloramphenicol group, produced in Russia by the company Uralbiopharm. Its active substance is chloramphenicol, which is also known by its international name. The dosage form available for administration is tablets with a dosage of 500 mg.

Indications for the use of Levomycetin-UBF include diseases such as typhoid fever, typhus, paratyphoid fever, brucellosis, rickettsiosis, tularemia, dysentery, whooping cough, chlamydia, meningitis, brain abscess, pneumonia, sepsis, osteomyelitis, purulent-inflammatory skin diseases, purulent wounds, infected burns, cracked nipples, infectious eye diseases.

Despite the wide range of applications, Levomycetin-UBF has a number of contraindications, which include hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol, diseases of the hematopoietic organs, acute porphyria, severe renal and liver dysfunction, psoriasis, eczema, fungal diseases, pregnancy, lactation and early childhood (the first months life).

When using Levomycetin-UBF, you may encounter side effects such as nausea, vomiting, loose stools, irritation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, pharynx, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, reticulocytopenia, hypohemoglobinemia, agranulocytosis, anemia, psychomotor disorders, disturbances of consciousness, delirium, visual and auditory hallucinations, paralysis of the eyeballs, taste disturbance, decreased hearing and visual acuity, dysbacteriosis, superinfection, cardiovascular collapse, dermatitis, allergic reactions.

It is necessary to take into account the interaction of Levomycetin-UBF with other drugs. For example, cycloserine can increase hematotoxicity, phenobarbital accelerates biotransformation, reduces the concentration and duration of the effect. Erythromycin, oleandomycin, nystatin, levorin increase antibacterial activity, benzylpenicillin salts decrease it. Levomycetin-UBF is incompatible with cytostatics, sulfonamides, pyrazolone derivatives, diphenine, barbiturates, alcoholLevomycetin-UBF should be taken only under the supervision of a physician and in accordance with the instructions for use. The recommended dose and duration of treatment should not be exceeded to avoid the development of side effects and superinfection.

It is also important to consider that Levomycetin-UBF may cause drowsiness and reduce concentration, so it is not recommended to drive vehicles or engage in other hazardous activities while taking the medicine.
