Lipocalcinography is a method for diagnosing diseases of the joints and ligaments by introducing a special contrast agent into the joint cavity. This substance contains a yellow dye and an iodine-containing component - Lugol's solution, which makes it possible to detect limited or diffuse changes in the tissue of the joints, as well as in the periarticular tissues. Diagnosis is made by ultrasound, and the main indication for its implementation is damage to the intra-articular part of the ligamentous apparatus. The diagnostic process itself occurs as follows. First, the patient is anesthetized, which ensures his psychological state before the procedure. Immediately after this, the doctor uses a needle to inject the solution into the joint cavity. The procedure itself takes no more than 20 minutes. After the procedure, the patient goes home and should not be distracted by any other activities. An hour after the administration of Lugol's solution, the doctor performs an ultrasound diagnosis. Based on the results of ultrasound, the localization of altered tissues, their thickness, the presence of fluid in the joint cavity, damage to cartilage or hyaline cartilage, the formation of adhesions, changes in the joint space are determined.
