Lisinopril

Lisinopril: Description, uses and side effects

Lisinopril is an antihypertensive drug belonging to the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). It is widely used to treat hypertension as well as other conditions related to the cardiovascular system.

Lisinopril is produced by various companies, including Alkaloid/Makiz-Pharma in Macedonia, ZiO-Zdorovye and Skopinsky Pharmaceutical Plant in Russia. It is available in tablet form in various strengths: 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg.

The main active ingredient in lisinopril is lisinopril itself. This ingredient works by blocking the action of angiotensin-converting enzyme, which is normally responsible for constricting blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. Under the influence of lisinopril, blood vessels dilate and blood pressure decreases.

Lisinopril is used to treat a variety of conditions. It is effective in the treatment of arterial hypertension, both in monotherapy and in combination with other drugs. It can also be used to treat heart failure, including cases associated with myocardial infarction. Lisinopril is also indicated for diabetic nephropathy, making it useful in the treatment of kidney-related complications.

However, lisinopril has some contraindications and restrictions for use. It is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to the drug, as well as during pregnancy and lactation. There are also restrictions on the use of lisinopril for certain conditions, such as anaphylactoid reactions, collagenosis, cerebrovascular insufficiency, hypotension, renal and liver dysfunction, arterial stenosis and other diseases.

Side effects are possible when using lisinopril. Some of these include headache, dizziness, impaired consciousness, irritability, nervousness, changes in the cardiovascular system (hypotension, arrhythmia), respiratory problems, digestive disorders and kidney dysfunction.

It is important to consult with your doctor before starting to take lisinopril to evaluate the benefits and risks of the drug in your individual case. Only a qualified medical specialist can determine the correct dosage and regimen of medication, taking into account the characteristics of the patient and concomitant diseases.

It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and not change the dosage or stop taking lisinopril without your doctor's consent. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function may be recommended while taking this drug.

If you experience any side effects or bothersome symptoms while taking lisinopril, contact your doctor immediately. It is also important to disclose all other medications you are taking to prevent interactions or unwanted effects.
