Bulldog reflex

The bulldog reflex is another name for Janiszewski's sign. Janiszewski's symptom is a pathological reflex, characterized by the fact that when the lips or cheeks are gently tapped, the lips narrow, as if the person wants to grab something with his lips. This reflex is often observed with organic brain lesions, in particular with progressive paralysis, encephalitis, and brain tumors. The name "bulldog" reflex was given due to the external similarity of the reaction of the lips with the reaction of a bulldog when it grabs and does not release prey. Thus, the bulldog reflex and Janiszewski's symptom indicate the same pathological phenomenon.
