Subulate Protrusion

The styloid protrusion (lat. prominentia styloidea) is a small process of the radius in the area of the wrist joint. It is located on the dorsum of the radius proximal to the head of the radius.

The styloid protrusion is the site of attachment of the ligaments of the wrist joint - the radiocarpal collateral ligament and the radiocarpal joint capsule. In addition, the tendons of the abductor muscles - the long extensor pollicis and the long extensor of the 1st finger - are attached to the styloid protrusion.

Thus, the styloid projection plays an important role in providing mobility and stability to the wrist joint. Damage to the styloid protrusion can lead to dysfunction of the hand and wrist.
