Sphygmotonometry

Sphygmotonometry is a procedure for assessing blood flow in vessels using a special device - a tonometer. It is also called a sphygmomanometer. This device is used to measure blood pressure. But its main function is to determine the speed and volume of blood circulating in the vessels.

The procedure is based on measuring blood pressure, which increases as it moves through the vessels. Thus, the sphygmotonometer measures pressure and then converts the data into a blood circulation graph and provides an assessment of the condition of the blood vessels. The procedure can be performed on both children and adults and requires additional examination. There are five methods of sphygmomeasurement in total, but only two are used most often in practice.
