Mediastinal pleura Mediastinum (lat. mediastinum; media (middle) + stinum (obstacle)), in origin, is a bone-fibrous plate separating the organs of the thoracic and abdominal cavities. There are front, rear and side walls (see section 5.1).
In front, the mediastinum is limited by the sternum and clavicles (sometimes only the right); downwards it continues into the neck with the median retropharyngeal eminence, behind - with the cervical vertebrae
