Telogen

Telogens are genes responsible for telomere length. Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. Telogens encode the enzyme telomerase, which maintains telomere length.

Shortening of telomeres with age is one of the causes of aging of the body. Telogens play an important role in regulating the aging process. Increasing telogen and telomerase activity may slow down aging. However, excessive activation of telomerase is characteristic of tumor cells and contributes to their immortality.

Studying the role of telogens opens up new perspectives in understanding the mechanisms of aging and developing approaches to prolonging life. Regulation of the activity of these genes may become the basis for the creation of drugs that slow down aging and prevent age-related diseases. However, further research is needed to examine all aspects of telogen function in human cells.
