Vero-Drotaverine: description, indications for use, contraindications and side effects

Vero-Drotaverine is an antispasmodic drug, an isoquinoline derivative, which is widely used in medicine to treat spasms of the smooth muscles of internal organs.

The drug is produced by Russian pharmaceutical companies Veropharm and the Belgorod branch. Its international name is Drotaverine. Currently, Vero-Drotaverine is available in the form of tablets with a dosage of 0.04 g.

The active substance of Vero-Drotaverine is Drotaverine. The drug acts on muscle tissue, relaxing it and eliminating spasms. Due to this, Vero-Drotaverine is used for a wide range of diseases associated with contraction of the smooth muscles of internal organs.

Indications for the use of Vero-Drotaverine include the following conditions:

  1. Spasm of smooth muscles of internal organs (cardio- and pylorospasm);
  2. Chronic gastroduodenitis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
  3. Gallstone disease (hepatic colic), chronic cholecystitis and postcholecystectomy syndrome;
  4. Hypermotor dyskinesia of the biliary tract, spastic intestinal dyskinesia, intestinal colic due to gas retention after surgery, colitis, proctitis, tenesmus, flatulence;
  5. Urolithiasis (renal colic), pyelitis;
  6. Spasm of cerebral vessels, coronary and peripheral arteries;
  7. The need to weaken uterine contractions and relieve cervical spasm during childbirth;
  8. Spasm of smooth muscles during instrumental interventions.

Contraindications to the use of Vero-Drotaverine include hypersensitivity to the drug and glaucoma. In addition, Vero-Drotaverine should be used with caution in cases of prostate adenoma and severe atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries.

Vero-Drotaverine can cause the following side effects: feeling of heat, dizziness, arrhythmias, hypotension, palpitations, sweating (more often with parenteral administration), allergic dermatitis.

The interaction of Vero-Drotaverine with other drugs may enhance the effect of other antispasmodics (including m-anticholinergics) and alcohol. The simultaneous use of Vero-Drotaverine with nitrates can lead to increased hypotensive effects and the development of orthostatic circulation.

Vero-Drotaverine should be taken orally at a dose of 40 mg (1 tablet) 2-3 times a day after meals. The duration of treatment and dosage depend on the severity and duration of the disease, as well as on the individual characteristics of the patient. When prescribing Vero-Drotaverine by injection, the dosage and frequency of administration are determined individually depending on the severity of the condition and response to treatment.
