Composition: Active substance - stavudine.

Indications for use: HIV infection, incl. after zidovudine therapy.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, severe liver dysfunction. Prescription during pregnancy and breastfeeding is permissible only for absolute indications.

Side effects: Peripheral neurological disorders: (decreased sensitivity of the limbs, tingling, myalgia), headache, insomnia, dizziness, abdominal pain, exacerbation of pancreatitis, dry mouth, anorexia, liver dysfunction, suppression of hematopoiesis, thrombocytopenia and neutropenia, allergic reactions in the form of skin rash, feverish conditions.

Interaction: Strengthens (mutually) the toxic effect of zalcitabine and the effect of didanosine (in vitro). It is undesirable to use drugs that can cause peripheral neurological disorders; the likelihood of developing such disorders increases significantly.

Overdose: No information.

Special instructions: In case of disease progression, correction of retroviral therapy is necessary. Use with caution in cases of liver dysfunction and the presence of peripheral neurological disorders. The occurrence of neuropathy requires dose reduction. Bilirubin levels, ALT and AST activity should be monitored during treatment, especially with concomitant liver and kidney damage.
