Vero-Thiophosphamide: a drug to combat cancer

Vero-Thiophosphamide is a drug used to treat various types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, bladder, pleural mesothelioma, retinoblastoma, meningeal malignancies, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and myeloid leukemia (leukemic form), lymphogranulomatosis, reticulosarcoma and lymphosarcoma. The active ingredient of the drug is thiotepa, which belongs to the pharmaceutical group of cytostatics containing ethyleneimine and ethylenediamine groups.

The drug is produced by the Russian company Lance-Pharm and has the international name Thiotepa. It may also be known under the synonyms Thiotepa-Thioplex and Thiophosphamide. The dosage form of Vero-Thiophosphamide is lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution of 10 mg.

The use of Vero-Thiophosphamide has a number of contraindications, such as hypersensitivity, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, severe anemia, cachexia, pregnancy, breastfeeding and the period after radiation therapy. When using the drug, side effects may occur, such as myelodepression (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia), stomatitis, nausea, vomiting, liver dysfunction, alopecia, skin erythema, and also, with intravesical administration, renal dysfunction.

When using the drug, special instructions must be taken into account. A blood test is required before each administration. In case of sharp suppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis, blood transfusions (thromboplasma or thromboconcentrate), hematopoiesis stimulants and vitamins are prescribed. The diluted solution can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours.

The interaction of Vero-Thiophosphamide with other drugs has not been studied.

Vero-Thiophosphamide is an effective drug for the fight against cancer, but its use should only be done under the supervision of a physician and in compliance with special instructions and contraindications.
