Constipation Reflex

Reflex constipation (from Latin Reflectoria), also known as psychogenic constipation, is a specific intestinal disorder that is caused by psychological factors and is not related to diet or physical activity. This disorder can be caused by stress, anxiety or depression, as well as other mental problems.

Psychogenic constipation manifests itself as difficulty in defecation due to tension in the intestines. Some people may experience constipation daily or even several times a day. As a result of this disease, abdominal pain and discomfort may occur.

Clinical studies have shown that more than half of people suffering from chronic constipation have psychological problems. Many of them described their symptoms as a result of mental problems such as anxiety and depression. These people also experience increased levels of anxiety and depression.

Treatment for this disorder includes behavioral changes such as more regular physical activity, drinking enough fluids and avoiding excess stress. In addition, a person may benefit from the use of medications that help stimulate bowel movements. In some cases, the intervention of a psychotherapist is necessary to cope with the underlying causes of the disease.
