Angiopril: description of the drug, indications for use and side effects

Angiopril is a drug that belongs to the group of antihypertensive drugs, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Angiopril contains the active ingredient captopril, produced in India by the pharmaceutical company Torrent Pharmaceuticals.

Angiopril is used to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, stable left ventricular dysfunction in patients after myocardial infarction and diabetic nephropathy associated with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

The drug is available in the form of tablets containing 25 mg or 50 mg of captopril. When prescribing the dose, it is necessary to take into account the degree of arterial hypertension and the individual characteristics of the patient.

Although effective in treating hypertension and heart failure, Angiopril may cause unwanted side effects. These may include fatigue, dizziness, headache, central nervous system depression, drowsiness, confusion, depression, ataxia, convulsions, numbness or tingling in the extremities, visual and/or smell disturbances.

Side effects from the cardiovascular system and blood, respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system may also occur. If side effects occur, you should consult a doctor.

Contraindications to the use of Angiopril include hypersensitivity to captopril, the presence of anamnestic information about the development of Quincke's edema with previous administration of ACE inhibitors, hereditary or idiopathic Quincke's edema, primary hyperaldosteronism, pregnancy, breastfeeding, as well as restrictions on use in the case of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, aortic stenosis or other obstructive changes that impede the outflow of blood from the heart, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with low cardiac output, severe renal dysfunction, bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis of the artery of a single kidney, the presence of a transplanted kidney, hyperkalemia and childhood.

In general, Angiopril is an effective drug for the treatment of arterial hypertension and other diseases of the cardiovascular system, but its use should be prescribed by a doctor, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and possible side effects.
