Microcytosis

Microcytosis is a condition in which blood cells are small. It can be caused by various reasons such as malnutrition, infections, kidney and liver diseases, and certain medications.

Microcytosis can manifest itself as a decrease in the size of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. However, the number of cells in the blood may remain normal or even increased.

One of the causes of microcytosis may be insufficient intake of iron into the body. Iron is necessary for the production of hemoglobin, which is found in red blood cells. If the body does not receive enough iron, the red blood cells become smaller, leading to microcytosis.

Other causes of microcytosis can be various infectious diseases, such as malaria, typhoid fever, hepatitis and others. Microcytosis can also be caused by certain medications, such as anticancer drugs.

If you suspect microcytosis, you should consult a doctor. He will conduct an examination and determine the cause of this condition. Depending on the cause of microcytosis, your doctor may prescribe treatment or lifestyle changes to prevent further development of the disease.
