Ligaments Tarsal Dorsal

Dorsal tarsal ligaments (lat. l. tarsi dorsalia) - transverse ligaments located on the dorsal surface of the tarsus. There are medial (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis medialis), intermediate (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis intermedia) and lateral (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis lateralis) dorsal tarsal ligaments.

The medial dorsal tarsal ligament (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis medialis) connects the medial edges of the bases of the first and second metatarsal bones.

The intermediate dorsal tarsal ligament (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis intermedia) is located between the bases of the II and III metatarsal bones.

The lateral dorsal tarsal ligament (lat. l. tarsi dorsalis lateralis) is located between the bases of the IV and V metatarsal bones.

The dorsal tarsal ligaments strengthen its dorsal surface and prevent excessive divergence of the metatarsal bones.
