1. Antioxidant serums

Skinceuticals' star products are their antioxidants. Antioxidants are needed to improve complexion, reduce pigmentation and prevent UV aging of the skin.

I tried three Skinceuticals antioxidants: 2 of the most popular and one of the cheapest.

1.1. Skinceuticals Antioxidant Serum 10





Let's start with the cheap one (compared to other Skinceuticals serums).
“Serum 10” is based on a combination of L-ascorbic acid (10%) and ferulic acid. It is recommended as a basic serum for young skin to prevent photoaging.
Either my skin turned out to be not young enough or the serum, on the contrary, “rejuvenated” it too much, but for me - my aunt is well over 30 - after 2-3 weeks of daily use of the serum... juvenile acne appeared
Although Serum 10 was stated to be suitable for sensitive skin, this was not the case in practice. My skin is reactive, so some products with vitamin C give an unpleasant reaction. Serum 10 was another vitamin C serum that didn’t suit my thin skin.
And the minimalist composition seemed to inspire hope...





Conclusion:

Serum 10 is no better than many other vitamin C serums, so it’s not worth spending 5,000 rubles on it - there are analogs that are much cheaper.

1.2. Skinceuticals antioxidant serum for dry and normal skin CE FERULIC

CE FERULIC turned out to be a very cool thing. In just a week, she evened out her complexion and removed slight pigmentation after acne.
The serum did not clog pores or cause inflammation.
Of the minuses, I can note that CE FERULIC has an unpleasant medicinal-sour smell, although it goes away quickly, it spoils the application process.
Otherwise, the use of the serum is comfortable: CE FERULIC at first seems a little oily, but is absorbed within a minute. To distribute the serum evenly and deeply, it is best to apply it to a damp face using patting movements.
The effect of the CE FERULIC serum is visible literally immediately: after application, the face turns nicely pink, a feeling of lightness and “breathing” appears, and the skin begins to glow.

In addition to instant transformation, CE FERULIC serum has a cumulative result. This was best seen on acne marks: usually my red spots go away within a month, but here my skin recovered in a week.

Water, Ethoxydiglycol, Ascorbic Acid, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Laureth-23, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, Triethanolamine, Ferulic Acid, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate.

A very good product that gives visible results. Perhaps one of the few antioxidant serums with such an obvious effect on improving skin tone and speed of skin regeneration.

Summer has come and my CE FERULIC is over. I switched to the new antioxidant serum for combination skin PHLORETIN CF.

1.3. Skinceuticals antioxidant serum for oily and normal skin PHLORETIN CF

Either it’s a bad summer or I’m not a poet, but I couldn’t understand the difference between CE FERULIC and PHLORETIN CF.
If we do not take into account the difference in composition, then in terms of behavior and effect on the skin, CE FERULIC and PHLORETIN CF turned out to be identical.

The composition of the serum, unlike the moisturizing one, contains alcohol, but does not contain glycerin:
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat., Ascorbic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Triethyl Citrate, Phloretin, Ferulic Acid.

On my normal skin, CE FERULIC and PHLORETIN CF gave a similar effect.
Since one serum is suitable for oily skin and the other for dry skin, I think those with these skin types will feel the difference in the serums and should choose a product based on their skin type.

Of all three antioxidants, I liked CE FERULIC the most: excellent action and 1000 rubles cheaper than the similar PHLORETIN CF

2. Moisturizing serums

2.1. Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 gel Intense moisturizing regenerating gel





Transparent, viscous, odorless liquid. Wait 1-2 minutes until completely absorbed.
If the skin is not dehydrated, then in the summer or at night Hydrating B5 gel can be used as an independent product under BB cream or instead of night cream.
In the warm season and at sea, I was very pleased with this serum. It moisturized perfectly, did not clog pores, and it was convenient to skip the cream, since the serum replaced it.

When the cold weather set in and the heating season began, the hydration from the serum became insufficient.
My skin is prone to moisture loss + flights are not good for it. In the fall, the facial skin suddenly became dehydrated and now Hydrating B5 gel copes poorly even in combination with cream. By evening, a feeling of tightness and lines of dehydration may appear on the face.

Overall, Hydrating B5 gel is a good product. If you have combination or oily skin, then the serum will be ideal, but for dry and dehydrated skin it is not enough.
I think the reason lies in the composition with the insidious glycerin at the head...

A very convenient format for summer and a good non-pore-clogging moisturizer for oily skin, but may disappoint those with dehydrated or dry skin.

2.2. Skinceuticals Corrective serum to increase hyaluronic acid in the skin H.A. INTENSIFYER

This serum provides deep, long-lasting hydration. H.A. INTENSIFIER does an excellent job of keeping dehydrated skin hydrated even during the heating season.
After 2 weeks of regular use of H.A. INTENSIFIER my skin has stopped tightening and the lines of dehydration on my cheeks have gone away.
H.A. INTENSIFIER has a purple color (leaves no traces) and a neutral pharmaceutical odor. The serum is instantly absorbed into the skin and you can immediately apply moisturizer.
Unlike Hydrating B5 gel, H.A. INTENSIFIER cannot be used as a stand-alone product.
I don’t know how much the level of hyaluronic acid in my skin has increased, but now it feels very comfortable.

It was a pleasant surprise that despite glycerin in the first lines of the H.A. INTENSIFIER, the serum moisturized well and did not clog my pores.





According to my observations, creams and serums with glycerin rank 2-3 either clog or dehydrate my skin even more during the heating season. Have you observed such an effect?

3. Toning and protection

3.1. Skinceuticals Moisturizing toner for all skin types Equalizing Toner

Tonic with an excellent composition: no glycerin, alcohol, parabens, but there are a lot of buttercup flowers.





The tonic is instantly absorbed, refreshes and moisturizes the skin, helps distribute serums deeper and more evenly.
The refreshing effect of Equalizing Toner is comparable to such luxury analogues as Floral Tonic from Sisley and The Tonic from La Mer. At the same time, Equalizing Toner costs 2 times less.
It would seem... a dream, not a tonic... But no: the consumption of Equalizing Toner turned out to be huge. This toner finishes 2 times faster than La Mer and Sisley.
A 250 ml bottle lasted me only 1.5 - 2 months.
Perhaps the problem is in the delivery format (spray) or in the too light formula (the tonic is instantly absorbed), but the fact remains: the speed of consumption compensates for the difference in price.

3.1. Skinceuticals High protection sunscreen with moisturizing effect Ultra Facial SPF50 defense





I usually only use sunscreen at sea and in the mountains. In the city, the SPF contained in the foundation is enough for me. But Ultra Facial defense was an exception and this summer I actively used it in the city.
The cream does not leave white streaks, but gives a very pleasant smoothing and highlighting of the skin. It can be used as a base for powder. I really liked the visual effect of the cream, so on days when I was too lazy to apply foundation (usually on weekends), I used Ultra Facial Defense in combination with loose powder and got a beautiful skin tone.





Ultra Facial defense also performed well at sea. I surf, so I spend a lot of time in the water and don't always renew my SPF (yes, I know it's harmful, but I sooooo don't want to get out of the water).
I applied this cream in the morning, then surfed under the aggressive sun until lunch and did not renew my face coverage. Despite such a barbaric attitude, the skin was never burned.
The cream does not clog pores and does not dry out the skin.

About “pies” and different brands. Thinking out loud.

Skinceuticals, like any manufacturer, recommends using products from the same line.
I mixed Skinceuticals with other brands. For example, I applied antioxidant serums to a toner from La mer and under a moisturizing serum from Ultraceuticals. On top of the Skinceuticals serums I always had a cream from a different brand.
Nothing terrible happened. Products from different manufacturers worked well together and gave a good effect.

The second interesting recommendation from Skinceuticals is the requirement to apply a four-layer “pie” in the morning: toner + antioxidant + moisturizing serum + cream.
Do Skinceuticals want to sell more or is this recommendation justified by the effect?

I do not believe that one remedy can act effectively in different directions. It’s difficult to cram soup and compote, vitamins, acids and a bunch of other things into one bottle, and it’s also a matter of stabilizing and making friends with each other.
Moreover, antioxidants need to be used once a day, and hydration is required day and night.
Therefore, separating the products and Skinceuticals’ recommendation to apply a moisturizing serum on top of the antioxidants in the morning is reasonable.
If you don’t have the opportunity to buy 2 Skinceuticals serums and need to choose an antioxidant or moisturizer, I think Skinceuticals should pay attention to the antioxidants, they are really very successful.
