Vena Hollow Superior

Vena cava superior (French veine volumineuse), one of the paired veins extending from the right atrium and ventricle of the heart. Receives blood from the heart. Vein cava superior vena cava venules and small veins formed in the walls of the lateral recess of the liver; merges with the inferior vena cava to form the right atrium. The right inferior aorta passes through the porta hepatis. The hepatic blood vessels usually connect the liver to the hepatic vein only between the abdominal cavity and the greater omentum, so they can drain directly into the inferior vena cava.
