Vitadral: a retinol-based product

Vitadral is a drug produced by Ankerfarm GmbH in Germany. It belongs to the group of retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A. The main active substance of Vitadral is retinol. Vitadral is available in oil form for ophthalmic use.

Vitadral is widely used for the treatment and prevention of various diseases associated with vitamin A deficiency, such as hypovitaminosis and vitamin A deficiency, rickets, malnutrition and infectious diseases, including measles, dysentery, tracheitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. In addition, Vitadral can be used to treat skin diseases such as burns, frostbite, wounds, skin tuberculosis, hyperkeratoses, ichthyosis, psoriasis, pyoderma and other inflammatory and degenerative pathological processes. The drug is also indicated for the treatment of eye diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa, hemeralopia, xerophthalmia, keratomalacia, eczematous eyelid lesions and conjunctivitis.

Despite its effectiveness, Vitadral has a number of contraindications and side effects. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to retinol, cholelithiasis, chronic pancreatitis and pregnancy in the first trimester. Interaction of Vitadral with other drugs may impair its absorption. An overdose of Vitadral may cause serious side effects, such as headache, confusion, convulsions, uncontrollable vomiting and profuse diarrhea.
