Wedge-Vomer suture

The sphenoid-vomerian suture (s. sphenovomeriana, pna) is an unpaired cranial suture connecting the sphenoid and vomeran bones. It is located in the middle part of the base of the skull.

The sphenoid bone is part of the base of the skull and is unpaired. It is located between the frontal and temporal bones. The vomeran bone is also unpaired, located in the front of the base of the skull between the wings of the sphenoid bone.

The sphenoid-vomer suture connects the anterior surface of the body of the sphenoid bone with the posterior surface of the body of the vomer bone. This suture forms a fixed connection between two bones. It closes by the end of the child's first year of life.

Thus, the sphenoid-vomeran suture plays an important role in the formation of a strong base of the skull, ensuring the connection of the sphenoid and vomeran bones.
