How to get a traumatic weapon?

Traumatic weapons are an effective form of self-defense, thanks to which thousands of people have a chance to save property, health, and often life.

Traumatic weapons, unlike military weapons, are much easier to obtain, and the consequences of their use in a critical situation are less destructive, although no less effective, and therefore less likely to result in subsequent prosecution. You can see more details here.

Traumatic weapons are divided into two groups. Weapons that require a special license are smooth-bore firearms, tubeless firearms (“OSA”, “KARAUL” and other traumatic equipment), gas weapons, including “rubber arrow” (“Makarych”, “Naganych”), hunting weapons and pneumatic hunting weapons. The second group of traumatic weapons is considered less dangerous, and you can purchase traumatic weapons of this type without special licenses. Such weapons include stun guns and low-power air guns that use compressed gas cylinders. If used correctly in a critical situation, it is quite possible to protect yourself and your loved ones with such weapons, and labor-intensive and lengthy licenses are not required.

  1. Fill out the application form
  2. Show an identification document of the citizen and his citizenship
  3. Submit certificate 046-1 containing a doctor’s conclusion that, for medical reasons, possession of a traumatic weapon is permitted
  4. Send two 3x4 photos
  5. Provide certificates from drug treatment and psychoneurological clinics at your place of residence
  6. Pay the state fee and submit a receipt for payment.

Documents are submitted to the licensing and permitting department. It is also necessary to purchase a safe or metal box for storing weapons. The application review period is 10 days. If the conclusion is positive, you will need to pass an exam (after minimal preparation and gaining basic knowledge of safety precautions when using weapons, this will not be difficult). You can then purchase a weapon, which must be registered within 14 days at the same ATC Licensing Office. The license is valid for 5 years and 3 months before its expiration, the license must be renewed by repeating all the steps listed above.
