Lavender

Lavandula hybrida Reverchon

In the first half of the 20th century, as a result of crossing real and spica lavender, a hybrid was obtainedLavandulahybridaReverchon, or lavandin. The plant contains a large amount of essential oil, which in chemical composition is significantly inferior to lavender. Lavandin oil is not difficult to distinguish by smell from lavender oil, as it has a strong lavender-camphor odor. The amount of camphor in its composition reaches 12%, while in lavender it is no more than 0.5%. There are a number of other significant differences in chemical composition, so lavender and lavandin essential oils cannot be used as equivalent.
