Miroxylon

Myroxylonpereirae(Royle) Klotzsch(Peruvian balsam, Tolu balsam)

In the first half of the 20th century in Europe and America, Peruvian and Tolu balsams were readily used as fragrances for perfumes and flavorings for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Aromatic resin is extracted from cuts in the bark of trees of the genusMyroxylon legume family. Subsequently, essential oil was obtained from it using various methods.

Tolu balsam oil has a pleasant scent with notes of vanilla and hyacinth. Peruvian balsam has a persistent sweetish vanilla aroma, which allows it to be used as a fixative in the production of perfumes and cosmetics.

In Central and South America, the homeland of tropical giants, local residents have long used the healing properties of a resinous substance, which contains more than 50% essential oil.
