The concept of liposuction, and is it harmful?

Liposuction is one of the most popular and effective methods of correcting body imperfections in the field of plastic surgery. In most clinics, this procedure is in honorable second place in terms of relevance after breast augmentation/reduction.

Everyone knows such well-known methods of dealing with extra pounds as following a diet or performing fairly strenuous exercise. Such methods do not guarantee getting rid of excess mass once and for all. However, there is a method that will help you get rid of excess fat deposits quickly and permanently, it is called liposuction.

This technique is aimed at removing fatty tissue in the most problematic areas. During this procedure, fat cells are removed through tiny punctures in the skin; this operation is performed under general or local anesthesia. This process takes place quickly (about 60 minutes) and is safe for the patient; no scars remain after it. This procedure is performed by highly qualified plastic surgeons using a special device (vacuum) that removes fatty tissue using thin cannula tubes.

This operation is often performed to remove excess fatty tissue in people in the following areas:

  1. belly, waist and sides;
  2. inner and outer thighs, shoulders and back, shins and knees, cheeks and chin.

Liposuction is ideal for people who have pronounced localized fat deposits located in problem areas. Such an operation can be performed on a patient of any age, starting from 18 years old. However, severe sagging skin due to age-related changes can worsen the results of such a procedure. If the client's skin is significantly aged, the operating surgeon may advise him to perform additional manipulations during the operation, for example, tightening the skin on the corrected area of the body or special cosmetic procedures aimed at restoring the elasticity of the skin. Any method of liposuction is associated with certain limitations: no more than 3-6 liters of adipose tissue can be removed in one operation.
