Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is characterized by severe itching and the appearance of areas of lichenification (thickening of the skin).

The causes of neurodermatitis are not fully understood. It is believed that hereditary predisposition, immune disorders, psycho-emotional stress, and allergies play a role in its development. The disease is more common in people with a history of atopic dermatitis.

The main symptoms of neurodermatitis:

  1. Severe itching, aggravated by anxiety and stress.

  2. The appearance of compacted lesions of various shapes on the skin, most often in the face, neck, elbows, hands, and feet.

  3. Dryness and flaking of the skin.

  4. Scratching and scabs in places where scratching occurred.

To treat neurodermatitis, moisturizing ointments and creams, antihistamines, and glucocorticosteroids are used. It is important to follow a hypoallergenic diet, avoid stress and hypothermia. In severe cases, phototherapy, cytostatics, and immunosuppressants are used.
