Acacia

Acacia farnesiana L.

The tree with sharp thorns and fragrant clusters, which we usually call white acacia, in fact is not such. It belongs to the genusRobina, its correct name is white Robinia, or acacia.

To obtain essential oil from the numerous genus Acacia, which has about 750 species, only two are used -Acaciafarnesiana AndAcaciadealbata. Acacia grows very well in tropical and subtropical climates. Europeans only became acquainted with this plant in the 19th century. During flowering, a small tree or shrub was covered with fluffy yellow balls, emitting a delicate aroma.

Silver acacia has gained the greatest popularity as an ornamental plant.(Acaciadealbata), or mimosa. It also contains a small amount of essential oil, similar in its properties to acacia oil, but a detailed study of its components has not yet been carried out.

The main producer of acacia essential oil is Egypt. The oil has a very persistent herbal-spicy aroma. Due to the high price of natural oil, its synthetic analogue is most often used in perfumes and cosmetics.

Mimosa essential oil is produced significantly less than acacia oil. Its price reaches 2000 USD. e. for 1 kg, which limits the widespread use for medicinal purposes of an amber, honey-like liquid with a floral-woody aroma.
