Moisturizing cuticle cream

It’s not enough to get a manicure; it’s also a good idea to make sure that it lasts for a long time. First of all, pay attention to the condition of the cuticle - regularly use special oil and cream. Although that's not all.

The need for cuticle care

The cuticle (from the Latin cuticula - “skin”) is a skin film in the area of the nail hole, consisting of dead and living cells. We remove accumulations of dead cells during manicure, and keep living tissues in order so that nails and fingers look beautiful and healthy.

The cuticle serves as a kind of protective barrier for the nails, protecting it from bacteria and dirt.

If you don't take care of the cuticle, it becomes dry, cracks and burrs appear on it. All this reduces its barrier functions to nothing.

Basic rules for cuticle care

On well-moisturized hands, the cuticle is almost invisible. © Getty Images

Rule number one is to moisturize and moisturize. The cuticle should not be dry and hard, otherwise hangnails will become your number one problem. And this is not just unpleasant, but also traumatic for the skin around the nail plate.

A professional manicure every two weeks is good, but it’s not enough for complete care. During the break between visits to the manicure salon, you will have to perform a few more manipulations.

A salt bath 1-2 times a week will strengthen the skin and nails and soften the cuticle. The water should be at a comfortable temperature, and in addition to sea salt, you can add a drop of essential oil to it.

After the bath, make an oil scrub with salt or sugar crystals and, as a final step, apply a nourishing cream to damp skin.

This is a special category of products intended for the cuticle. Remover (from the English remove - “remove”, “eliminate”) is applied directly to the cuticle for a short time (from 30 seconds to 5 minutes), then washed off, after which the cuticle softened with its help is moved away. This professional care product is mainly used during manicure and pedicure procedures.

Most often, cuticle removers are produced in the form of a gel, light liquid cream or thick lotion.

To prevent the cuticle from growing, you need to push it back about once a week. Ideally, this manipulation should be carried out by a manicurist, and the procedure looks like this:

softening the cuticle using a bath and/or remover;

actually moving away using a special metal tool (pusher) or an orange stick.

An orange stick has two sides:

one in the shape of a spatula - this is what is needed for processing the cuticle so as not to injure the skin;

the other is pointed: with its help you can remove dirt from under the nail.

If you do not have professional skills, it is better not to experiment with pushing back the cuticle; there is a risk of injury and infection.

Massage is useful not only for caring for the cuticle, but also for maintaining the elasticity of the skin of the hands and strengthening the nail plate.

Apply a little cream or cosmetic oil to your hands.

Massage the product thoroughly until completely absorbed.

Pay special attention to massaging your fingers, rubbing the cream from the tips to the palm in a circular motion.

Different types of tools will help here.

Cuticle oil. Carry it with you in your purse (close the bottle tightly to prevent spillage) and use it whenever possible. Typically, such products include a mix of oils, for example, jojoba, olive, avocado.

Hand cream. Many of them are suitable for caring for cuticles and even the nail plate. You need those that contain vitamin E, allantoin, chamomile and aloe extracts.

Special products for cuticles. They are produced in different formats: stick, pencil, cream, balm.

The main advice that manicurists give is: use cuticle care products daily, ideally morning and evening. Apply directly to the cuticle, gently distribute and rub until completely absorbed.

Practical advice from experts

If during a manicure you ask the master what you need to do to keep your cuticles in good condition, you will be given basic recommendations that are best to follow.

Apply cuticle oil every day.

Use hand cream all year round. In summer - moisturizing and containing SPF, in winter - dense protective. At night you can and should apply nourishing hand cream.

To ensure that the body and skin of the hands (and therefore the cuticle) do not experience a moisture deficiency, follow the drinking regime. The norm of 2 liters per day does not work for everyone, so calculate the optimal amount of water individually using the formula 30 ml per 1 kg of weight.

Precautionary measures

But you can’t do this if you want your cuticle to look beautiful and healthy.

You should not start processing the cuticle if there are inflammations and hangnails on it. Even if the procedure is performed by a professional.

Fans of edged manicure, in which the cuticle is not pushed back but cut off, should entrust this task to a master. No amateur activities if you don’t want to get hurt with all the ensuing unpleasant consequences.

Tools Overview

Not only softens the cuticle, but also takes care of the nails. Contains shea butter for nutrition and hydration.

Squalane, shea butter and avocado oil provide nutrition, softening, and moisturization to the skin of the hands and cuticles. Protects skin.

It will be useful for those whose hands often come into contact with water: for example, if you go to the pool or do wet cleaning every day. The formula with allantoin and glycerin restores, nourishes, provides comfort and softness. When applying, rub the cream into the cuticle to soften it.

Hello, my fellow readers.

I have already published a post about cuticle removers. And now I propose to talk about cuticle creams. What are they for? Do you need oil or hand cream? Isn't this a "duck" for manicure maniacs?

To be honest, I was always sure that it was a “duck” (not medical, but manicure). Current in a small volume. I had several “prototypes” and I decided to combine them into one review and show something new.

I must admit that in winter, for me, the problem is not so much dry hands as “freezing” skin. Which instantly makes my hands rough and my dermatitis comes on like a “holiday”. I really can’t wear gloves on wool - it’s like a rabbit or a muton. So it goes. I've tried tons and tons of hand creams. I found my favorites, but next year they might disappear from the range or be re-released in the wrong formula. And if this year I met the cute universal “GOAT”, then in the cold I still need something more intense and restorative.

And then I somehow remembered a product called cuticle care cream. They always have a rich texture, because their main function is to nourish, moisturize and restore dry, lifeless cuticles and nail plates. They absorbed quickly enough and were more convenient to apply even several times a day and carry with you. Of course, their volume is small, but what does that matter if the cream works, right?

And the experiment began. I decided to try several cuticle care creams on the skin of my hands as an intensive restorative treatment.

1. ORLY - CUTICLE THERAPY CREME - Therapeutic cream for cuticles

Personal:

We all know very well that in addition to oils, cuticles and nails need to be pampered with cream. So this ORLY cream came in handy. It smells nice (of oils), absorbs quickly, and softens perfectly. Suitable for those who have no time to wait for the OIL to be absorbed. There is a cumulative effect, although after the first time it is clear that the skin softens well. The volume is small, but very compact.
For hands, this is a fairly rich cream - it softens and restores perfectly, but leaves a greasy film and is not suitable for the day. But overnight, the skin is completely restored - it is soft, moisturized and no “cold” symptoms are observed. Suitable even for radically dry hand skin as an SOS product. Therefore, if you have this cream, do not rush to buy something new - perhaps this “baby” will help you. By the way, it is produced in larger volumes - in a plastic jar.

2. LUMENE – GLOSS & CARE – CUTICLE CREAM 3 IN 1

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-TEElBGv.webp

Description:
Thanks to this caring cream, the cuticles and skin around the nails will look neat and well-groomed. Its botanical oils soften cuticles, arctic cranberry seed oil moisturizes, and shea butter restores dry skin around the nails.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-lZRChhq.webp

Tata has long loved this cream and this discovery did not pass me by either - especially the review with the white teddy bear. At one time, I was sent several creams from LUMENE to test and I liked them for their moisturizing effect. That's why I decided to try this cream.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-VVPAn.webp

Indeed, it has a very convenient consistency - a melting, delicate emulsion. The spout is a dispenser that allows you to apply the cream exactly to the cuticle. The aroma is very light and subtle, you can smell either raspberries or the signature cloudberry. Absorbs quickly, but at the same time softens very well. You can apply it not only to the cuticle, but also to the nails and fingers in general if there is any dryness. However, on the skin of my hands it was not particularly pleasant - it felt somehow. It looks like there’s no film, but somehow it’s not quite right. Therefore, let's leave this product with its direct duty - to care for dry cuticles and nails. Despite its modesty, this cream boasts truly professional manners. For which a big THANK YOU to him. It’s a pity that it was discontinued.
After last year’s large-scale rebranding, the Lumene brand has become a little different and I hope that something similar will definitely appear there.

3. Nail Tek - HYDRATION THERAPY CUTICLE CREME - Cuticle care cream

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-lJNaJh.webp

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-pBMIRn.webp

It combines enriched, nourishing essential oils with an emollient cream to establish and maintain a healthy cuticle balance.

Gag:
When restoring my nails in winter, I used oils for a long time, but decided to put them aside for a while and switch to the CREAM texture. That year, I was impressed by NAIL TEK brand medicinal nail products and therefore decided to try the cuticle cream.
The cream is in soft plastic with a convenient dispenser spout - everything is standard.
The cream has a very good composition - safflower oil, jojoba, almond, apricot, grapefruit, tea tree oils, collagen, vitamins, etc. The texture of the cream is plastic, slightly liquid. It smells like herbs, but the TEA tree overpowers everything. The fragrance is not the most pleasant, but it disappears quickly and therefore is not irritating. Absorbs quickly. At the same time, it provides ideal hydration and softening of the skin around the nails. The cuticle is completely restored, irritations, cuts, peeling and hangnails are healed.
This cream works great on the skin of the hands - it is quickly absorbed, perfectly moisturizes and restores the skin - it becomes smooth and soft. Even the most stubborn peeling and irritation disappear. It can be applied during the day - it does not leave a film or stickiness, but its fragrance is not for everyone. However, I forgive him for this, since I am more than satisfied with the result. And its compact size allows you to throw it in your bag and carry it with you.
In general, I recommend this cream to everyone - it is really high quality and effective. Today it’s an absolute favorite for me - I’m already on my second tube. It also seems to me that in the warm season, a product like this is more appropriate for the cuticle than oils, although again it’s an individual matter.

4. NOVOSVIT Prof – Oil – Butter “Lemon” and Cream “S.O.S” for cuticle care

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-hyxrXv.webp

This democratic brand is known to almost everyone - a few years ago, a wildly burning “butt cream” made a splash)))))) To be honest, I haven’t tried anything from them. Although reviews for various skin care products are sometimes good.
One day in the store I came across their line for nails and cuticles - funny little tubes with an unrealistically funny price tag.

I tried "SOS Cream" and Lemon Butter Butter. I bought it in “a couple”, and I’ll tell you about the couple.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-xxXUR.webp

At home, it turned out that their textures are slightly different - the SOS cream is richer and smells like coconut, while the butter is more flexible and has a delicate scent.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-zEaFsmo.webp

Apply directly to nails and cuticles. The SOS cream turned out to be more nutritious and dense, the “lemon” butter turned out to be more comfortable and absorbed faster. Both creams perfectly restored the skin, relieving all irritation, redness, peeling and dryness. The nails are also perfectly moisturized and more elastic.
You can safely apply both day and night, slightly varying the amount. They do not leave a greasy film, allowing you to continue with your usual activities or apply a varnish coating.
Well, the volume makes me happy - I don’t like carrying an “arsenal” in my bag.
I “sentenced” both of them with pleasure and plan to buy a couple more to try. Or maybe I’ll try others in the same line. But most of all I liked “LEMON”, which I will repeat several times for sure.
And I recommend both of them to you. Although, it is quite possible that you are already familiar with them.

As a conclusion, I want to say that I was very pleased with the experiment - it helped me solve the problem, so to speak, without leaving home)))). Of course, this does not mean that I have given up effective hand creams - far from it, but when they need to be specially ordered or suddenly, as the winter cold snap has set in now, and the “panacea” has not been purchased or has been removed from the range, then you can easily get by with these “ kids" who work on two fronts. Again, this is my personal experience, and it’s up to you to decide.

This concludes my review. Come on, tell us what you like more - cream or oil for cuticle care? What are your favorites?
As always, I look forward to your comments.

The cuticle is constantly growing, which can lead to the peeling of dead cells and the formation of hangnails if not properly cared for. With constant moisturizing and nourishing procedures, dry cuticle does not lead to such problems. Proper care prevents their appearance and gives your nails a neat, well-groomed appearance.

Of course, cracked, dry cuticles do not look aesthetically pleasing and can ruin the appearance of even the most beautiful manicure. This can be avoided by spending very little time caring for it at home. Home remedies are especially appropriate when there is no time to visit professional salons.

Rules of care ↑

It should be noted that it is not so rare that cracks and inflammation occur due to improper care. In such situations, things can get to the point where the cuticle not only grows, but ultimately becomes rough and dry out. You can prevent all the described unpleasant consequences by using some of the folk recipes designed specifically for this at home. The main necessary effect of such products, which the cuticle is expected to receive, is complete nutrition, hydration and softening.

The nail cuticle is a tough skin, but it performs a protective function, protecting the nail plate from microbes and bacteria. That is why it is often not recommended to trim it. In addition, it affects the growth and aesthetic appearance of nails in general. To keep your hands always beautiful, you need to constantly monitor their condition, using moisturizing and caring cosmetics on time. Then the cuticle will not become dry and lifeless, and your hands will acquire a neat, well-groomed appearance.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-wUzQeg.webp

Balms are often used as nutrients. They are absorbed much faster than other care products, and are also considered the most practical. Natural products containing vegetable or essential oils come to the rescue for solving this kind of problem.

In the fight against dry nail cuticles, moisturizing cosmetic creams are used along with homemade masks. You can purchase them freely in pharmacies or stores. Many of them are intended for both nails and the skin around the nail plate. Typically, such cosmetics not only contain useful substances with vitamins, but also, as a rule, have restorative, antifungal and antiseptic properties. A number of such cosmetics help to completely get rid of the cuticle.

Oils are the best moisturizers ↑

Various oils are considered a universal care product, for example, sesame, almond or olive. As a rule, two drops of essential oils are used together with the vegetable oil (usually a teaspoon). Apply the mixture using a regular brush. Oils help prevent and eliminate many problems. These include cracked, dehydrated skin and the appearance of hangnails. It should be understood that the consequences of vitamin deficiency, frequent contact with water or chemicals - all this can also be the causes of their occurrence.

Oils should be used regularly. For example, after getting out of the shower, you can apply a little of any oil to the cuticle. It is recommended to use massage oil at least twice a day. Only in this case will they eliminate all microbes and bacteria, and will also protect, nourish the cuticle, and heal wounds. Oils do not leave behind unpleasant traces. The result when used independently is quite noticeable - the cuticle becomes soft and smooth.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-BPHDC.webp

Essential oils can strengthen and restore elasticity to the cuticle, as well as give it a healthy shine (thyme or pine oil) and a pleasant aroma (citrus oils). Very often, homemade cosmetics prepared independently are many times superior in their effect to store-bought ones.

When taking care at home, cosmetologists advise adopting some simple tips for the correct use of products. It is advisable to clean your nails with a liquid that does not contain acetone. Conditioner can be used as a moisturizer. And before you push back the cuticle, you must first put your hands in warm water. After this, after a few minutes you need to wipe the damp skin with any towel, then carefully push the cuticle to the side with a terry towel.

Homemade oil recipes ↑

There are many recipes that you can use to make your own effective cuticle care product. At the same time, ready-made natural products in their pure form are used. Various oils are considered very popular and effective. The most commonly used are the following common options for using oils, as well as homemade recipes for care products based on them.

  1. Olive oil is rubbed separately in small portions into the cuticle, nails, and the area around them.
  2. Vitamin C oil is applied to the cuticle, left for up to 10 minutes, then washed off.
  3. Grapefruit peel has a good moisturizing and healing effect, thanks to the oil it contains.
  4. When dealing with dryness, castor or apricot oil is useful. Directions for use: rubbing a small amount. Apricot is recommended to be preheated before use to enhance the effect. With constant rubbing, both oils will make the cuticle skin soft and tender.

    uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-DgYPdn.webp

  5. Healing oil is prepared by mixing melted tea tree oil (5 drops) and hemp oil (a couple of tablespoons). Apply the prepared mixture to the nails, the skin around them and the cuticle, without subsequently rinsing off. The composition moisturizes, heals, treats inflammation.
  6. To make massage oil, take a drop of myrrh and peppermint essential oils. Add a couple of drops of lavender and one and a half tablespoons of almond to them. It is recommended to rub the resulting mixture at night once every day. This method stimulates nail growth.
  7. An anti-aging recipe can be prepared by mixing only two oils: jojoba (a couple of tablespoons) and carrot seeds (up to 10 drops). The prepared composition is stored in a small jar and used warmed up for massage without being washed off.
  8. A strengthening composition for cuticles, nails, and the area around them can be prepared from a mixture of essential oils of frankincense, lemon, myrrh (10 drops of each), as well as a couple of tablespoons of vitamin E. The finished composition is used twice a week.
  9. Convenient to store and the easiest to prepare, reusable oil is the best option. To make it, mix lemon juice, olive oil with any essential oil. It is also stored in a small container and applied, after shaking, directly to the cuticle skin before going to bed.

About other care products ↑

When caring for cuticles, store-bought or homemade exfoliating scrubs are often used. They have a softening effect on the cuticle and help completely get rid of dead skin cells. To prepare a homemade version, mix olive oil with sugar. The composition is rubbed into the cuticle with gentle movements, then washed off. It would be appropriate to use a homemade emollient cream here.

uvlazhnyayushij-krem-dlya-mWUxU.webp

It is made from half a glass of calendula and 10 g of petroleum jelly. The mixture is kept in a water bath over low heat until the petroleum jelly is completely melted. After this, the composition is removed from the heat and kept for up to 12 hours. After the specified period, the resulting moisture is drained, and the almost finished cream is again placed in a water bath to completely dissolve. At the end, the mixture is filtered through cheesecloth, and the already prepared cream is poured into a jar.

A series of care products that can be made at home include ointments. For example, a recipe based on apricot oil and lanolin makes it possible to independently prepare a universal cuticle care product, which not only perfectly softens and moisturizes the sensitive skin of the cuticle on the nails, but also has a noticeable healing and healing effect. It is made by mixing a teaspoon of apricot oil and lanolin in the amount of 4 teaspoons. The mixture is kept in a water bath until the lanolin dissolves. The finished ointment is stored for a long time in a closed jar at room temperature.

The standard minimum for cuticle care includes daily rubbing of any oil in combination with massage. This comprehensive care has a pronounced restorative effect in case of damage, so it is especially recommended to use it after a trimmed manicure or other similar types of cosmetic procedures. It allows you not only to strengthen the cuticle, but also has a positive effect on brittle nails and their structure. To keep your cuticles, nails, and the area around them in healthy, good condition, you need to do the described care procedures at home regularly.
